Tom Hang is the alias of Jimmy Asquith, maharajah of the mighty Lobster Theremin records, and a cursory glance at that label's release schedule should give you some idea of his phenomenal work rate. He's also a seriously gifted techno producer in his own right and "The New World" his new EP for Where To Now? Records is a 24 minute demonstration of his razor sharp skills and inventiveness behind a mixing desk. Not reliant on a thunderous kick drum to carry each of the three tracks, his percussion works like a cakewalk, shifting this way and that to throw you off balance before settling into a groove you know is going to buffeted by all manner of strange synth patterns and unplaceable blasts of sound that make a near 12 minute tune like "In The Deep" absolutely flash by. The last thing I want is for Lobster Theremin to be neglected as Jimmy Asquith's talent as a solo artist becomes more widely known but with an EP as seriously special as this, soon the growing chorus of "more"! will become too deafening to ignore. Wonderful stuff. Favorite track: In The Deep.
